Hi! I’m Miguel. I’m a postdoc researcher at the section for Visual Computing at DTU Compute (Denmark) with Rasmus Larsen. My current research focuses on deep learning, anomaly detection, ships (AIS data), and satellite imagery.

Previously, I worked with Anders B. Dahl on topology-focused image segmentation, with my work being published at BMVC (Oral) and CVPR. My Ph.D., with Jussi Tohka as my supervisor, focused on rodent brain MRI segmentation.

My research interests are: deep learning, computer vision, image segmentation, topology, anomaly detection, and efficient DL. I have extensive experience working with medical images/volumes, including MRI, CT, X-ray (clinical and synchrotron), and electron-microscopy. More recently, I have been shifting my focus to satellite imagery and marine/maritime-related data, including AIS and underwater images.

I’m open for collaborations and other academic activities. I have organized several workshops and given guest lectures. Feel free to contact me: jmvma (at) dtu.dk.
